Whittakers have two new releases in their 100g bar range.  They are limited editions, and they introduce florals.

REFRESH - PEPPERMINT WITH INFUSED LAVENDER

33% Milk Chocolate, natural peppermint oil with a hint of lavender extract.  A chocolate bar that aims to enliven your senses and invigorate.

This chocolate is lovely and smooth.  It melts in the mouth and has a nice mint flavour.
Lavender has flavour notes of herby florals and a mild mint background.   We had to really search for it in this chocolate.  Maybe the peppermint hid it a little, but we did pick up a very slight herby taste that was, more noticeable in the aftertaste.  We really enjoyed the milk chocolate and peppermint flavour combo.

RELAX - PASSIONFRUIT AND INFUSED CHAMOMILE

33% Milk Chocolate, natural passionfruit flavour and chamomile extract.
There is that lovely smoothness of their 33% creamy milk chocolate again.  The passionfruit flavour is there and not too strong which we like.  Chamomile flavour notes are a mild mix of herby florals, sweet honey and apple.  This bar was sweet, but again we had to really search for flavours beyond the passionfruit and chocolate.  I'm not sure we picked up the Chamomile, but in the aftertaste there was a vague hint of dried florals. 
We also enjoyed this bar and its chocolate and passionfruit flavours.

FINAL THOUGHTS
These taste nice, we liked them. 
As a lover of Turkish Delight, Joni loves rose and chocolate as a flavour combo. We are really intrigued and interested by florals in chocolate.  It was a bit disappointing that we really had to search for the floral flavours in these, and it was more in the aftertaste that we thought we picked something up. The passionfruit and peppermint flavours with the creamy milk chocolate, was nice though. We will happily try them again.

The chocolate mold is super fun and chunky.  We bought 4 flavours to try. All 180g blocks.

TONY'S CHOCOLONELY WHITE CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY AND POPPING CANDY

Johanan says it had a cheesy aroma, but the taste is a  bit like a raspberry muffin.  Nice amounts of freeze dried raspberry with 28% white chocolate flavours.  Popping Candy is always fun, and we liked this bar.

TONY'S CHOCOLONLEY MILK CHOCOLATE

32% Belgian Milk Chocolate
Milky and smooth with mild chocolate flavours.   Quite sweet.  Johanan liked it. 

TONY'S CHOCOLONELY MILK CARAMEL AND SEA SALT

32% Milk Chocolate with crunchy caramel bits and a sprinkling of sea salt.    Milky, crunchy and slightly salty along with sweetness.  The caramel was a nice texture with very mild caramel flavours.

TONY'S CHOCOLONELY DARK MILK CHOCOLATE PRETZEL TOFFEE

This was Joni's favourite.  42% dark milk chocolate, pretzel and toffee pieces.  Nice texture with the pretzels and we like the toffee and pretzel flavours along with the mild chocolate taste.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Fun bars and flavours.  A little too sweet for Joni's taste, but all the family liked them.

When we think of chocolate almonds, we have always thought of Nestle Scorched Almonds.  Now, we have started to notice a larger range in the supermarkets.
Nestle Scorched Almonds offer a thick chocolate shell, they are a nice mouthful, very sweet, and the chocolate flavour is a little lacking.  Here is what we bought to compare:

CADBURY CHOCOLATE ALMONDS

These are not as big as the Nestle Scorched Almonds.  They are not as sweet, but still pretty sweet.  The chocolate flavour is very mild.  We had no preference over these or Nestle.

WOOLWORTHS COCOA DUSTED MILK CHOCOLATE ALMONDS

We don't know who makes these for the Woolworths brand, but these are quite nice.  The shell is thinner and you can taste the almonds and the cocoa.

GRAZE SKINNY DIPPED MILK CHOCOLATE ALMONDS

These really focused on the almonds.   The almonds tasted nice and fresh with a bit of sweetness from the chocolate.  The chocolate flavour was not there, but we did really enjoy the freshness of the almonds.

NOM DOUBLE DIPPED ALMONDS CARAMEL LOVE
Almonds dipped in Belgian caramel chocolate.

These were quite nice.  The caramel chocolate flavour is mildly there, and you can taste the almonds too.

​NOM DOUBLE DIPPED ALMONDS MOCHA

Dipped in milk and white chocolate and dusted with espresso dusting.  The coffee we could taste, and there is sweetness from the chocolate, but not much chocolate flavour.  The almond is a background flavour but most prominent is the coffee.  These were quite nice, but we preferred the caramel version.

These were all sourced from the local supermarket.  We recently did an order of chocolate with Miann Chocolate Factory, and they gave gift of their Miann almond parcel, with Dulce chocolate.

These are so yummy!  They tasted buttery and caramelly.  The almond nuts were also nice and tasty.  We would have these over the supermarket branded chocolate almonds any day.  ​

Donovans Chocolate Company is based in Hamilton, New Zealand.  They sell a range of different chocolate goodies in New Zealand supermarkets.  We bought the biggest selection we could find at our local shop. Prices were around the $3.50 range.

RASPBERRY LAMINGTON CLUSTERS

Milk Chocolate, 35% Cocoa solids, 30% milk solids, coconut and raspberry jellies.
We liked the combo of the raspberry jellies and coconut.  We couldn't taste the chocolate, only sweetness.

​CHOCOLATE GINGER PIECES

60% Dark Chocolate and crystalized ginger.
Big ginger pieces.  These have a strong ginger hit with a faint chocolate taste.  If you like ginger, these are a gingery sweet mouthful.

TOASTED COCONUT CLUSTERS

30% Toasted coconut, milk chocolate, 35% cocoa solids, 30% milk solids.
Tastes like sweet coconut.  Not much chocolate flavor.  Good sized mouthful.

TURKISH DELIGHT BITES

Milk chocolate, 35% cocoa solids, 30% milk solids, turkish delight jelly.
The turkish delight is a nice bite size and has a nice flavour.  Didn't taste the chocolate.

INDULGENT CARAMEL SQUARES

60% Dark Chocolate with sea salt.
Nice bite size.  A mild taste of everything, toffee caramel, salt and chocolate.  The toffee caramel had a slight vegetable taste to it.  These looked yummier than what they were.

​AFTER DINNER MINT SQUARES

60% dark chocolate and mint fondant.
Slightly toothpasty mint flavour and a mild chocolate taste.  We would have preferred a stronger chocolate flavour and less mint strength.

​HOKEY POKEY CLUSTERS

Milk chocolate, 35% cocoa solids, 30% milk solids, and hokey pokey bits.
These were quite nice.  They were a nice big bite and had a nice hokey pokey texture.

MANUKA HONEYCOMB CHOCOLATE BLOCK 100G

Milk chocolate.
The taste is sweet honey and there is a nice crunch of honey comb.  We do like honey flavours with our chocolate.  There is 2 other bars we couldn't source but would like to try sometime.  A Raspberry and Rose 100g and a Fruity Feijoa.

FINAL THOUGHTS
These chocolates are very affordable.  They offer big sized bite pieces which we liked.  There were also some fun flavours.  On the downside, the chocolate flavour was very mild if it existed at all.  We will definitely be on the lookout for those 2 other bars to try.  Rose and Raspberry sounds really nice.
