Miann Chocolate make our favourite chocolate covered almonds, and they make a really nice 40% Mexico single origin. We were eager to try some more. COLOMBIA, ARHUACOS 78% SINGLE ORIGIN
This chocolate has earthy flavour notes with a hint of all spice and honey. This chocolate is very nice!! It has jumped into our favourite list as our favourite single origin from Colombia.
MADAGASCAR, BEJOFO ESTATE 40% MILK CHOCOLATE
This milk chocolate had a nice strength of flavour. Slight wood, earthy, flavour notes with hints of dried fruits and hay. This wasn't too sweet, dark chocolate with a hint of milk, which we like. This bar is very nice. MADAGASCAR , BEJOFO ESTATE 72% SINGLE ORIGIN DARK
There is a fruity fragrance that hits you when you open the wrapping. This was like eating a dried fruit medley of figs and dates with little bits of prune and sultanas. This was really nice and our new favourite Madagascar single origin.
MEXICO, SOCONUSCO 85% SINGLE ORIGIN
We really enjoyed the 40% Mexico milk chocolate Miann make. This dark version has flavour notes of red fruit, caramel and a hint of pepper and heat. There is also a nice chocolatey aftertaste. We liked this bar a lot. MAYA MOUNTAIN, BELIZE 70%, SINGLE ORIGIN
This chocolate has sweet moments with a dark chocolate tang. It is mild with notes of hay and vanilla. You also get this refreshing note on the tongue like the sensation you get from a mint. This was an interesting one. PAPUA NEW GUINEA, TOKIALA 65% SINGLE ORIGIN
This starts with vanilla and maple notes and is mild and sweet. The next notes are stronger, red earth, dark chocolate with a tang. The ending notes are sweet dried fruits that linger in the aftertaste. This was really enjoyable. INDIA, ANAMALAI 78% SINGLE ORIGIN
We enjoy single origins from India, and this is nice too. This is sweet with notes of hot stones, wood, slightly sandalwood with a nice chocolate tang. DULCE DE LECHE CARAMILISED WHITE CHOCOLATE
Milky mild, golden syrup, condensed milk flavours. This bar was pleasant.
FINAL THOUGHTS We really enjoyed this tasting hoard. We have two new favourites and we really liked all the single origins Miann Chocolate made.

Marshmallow, meringue pieces, lemon flavoured milk chocolate.
Very sweet. We liked the texture of the meringue pieces. We are not such a fan of the lemon flavoured chocolate. These would be really nice with lemon peel.  Cadbury have brought out a new bar for the holiday season. White Christmas is a chocolate bar with the Dream white chocolate with raspberry jelly bits, rice crisps and almond pieces.
The jelly, rice crisps and almond are little bits scattered throughout the white chocolate. Dream white chocolate is quite sweet, but the combo with these little bits are yummies is nice. We liked the little rice crisps in this.
It is a bit of fun and we liked it. LaPetite is a NZ Chocolate shop that make chocolate bars, bon bons and confections from fair trade and organic chocolate. They won awards at the NZ Artisan awards 2022 and the NZ chocolate awards 2022, so we bought a chocolate bar 4 pack to try. They arrived in a cute bag.
DR BEAK PREMIUM GIN DARK CHOCOLATE Gold medal winner NZ Chocolate Awards 2022 70% Ecuador Dr Beak Gin Botanicals: Junipers, Chamomile, Lime, Lemon Verbena, Lavender, Giant Kelp
You can taste the juniper, lavender and chamomile. The gin flavours are really nice. The dark chocolate is a mild note in the background. This was a nice choccie. TANGY FRUIT WHITE CHOCOLATE Gold Medal winner at the NZ Artisan Awards 2022 35.5% white chocolate Freeze dried passionfruit Freeze dried feijoa Lime essential oil
We couldn't really taste the feijoa, but the passionfruit, lime flavours mixed with the white chocolate, had an almost cheesecake taste which was really nice. GINGERBREAD DARK CHOCOLATE Silver Medal Winner at the NZ Chocolate Awards 2022 66% Sao Tome Gingerbread spices
The spices are nice. The strongest is nutmeg, then ginger with cardamon and cloves notes. It reminds us of pumpkin pie spices. The combo of this chocolate with the spices is really yummy. This was our favourite. HAWTHORNE CAPPUCCINO 37% Dominican Republic Milk Chocolate Medium - Dark roasted Arabica Coffee beans from Hawthorne Coffee Roasters
This was our least favourite. The coffee was very mild and had an almost instant coffee flavour. It is also very sweet.
FINAL THOUGHTS We like 3 out of 4 of these bars. The 3 we liked, we really liked. There is a lot more on offer at LaPetite, so we will explore more in the future. |
