Pop tarts haven't been in New Zealand that long. You were able to get them in novelty candy stores, but they have only, in the last few years, been available on our supermarket shelves. Kelloggs have be around in New Zealand for years. We wanted to try some as we have heard them mentioned on tv and were always curious about their appeal. So you just pop them in the toaster and voila! We almost made a rookie mistake. There is 2 in every silver packet. We tried to put in both thinking they were one pop tart. The verdict: The icing is like the hard icing you get on animal biscuits.... do they still have those around? The packet calls them pastries. They are more like a cookie with a soft middle.
They don't taste fresh or newly baked, but we can see the appeal in a warm cookie. I think we would rather buy something else like biscuits, cake or chocolate bars. These are okay, but not something we would buy again.
