A tasting of Bennetts chocolatier bars

Bennetts Chocolatiers do a range of boxed chocolates as well as these little bars.  
They are located in Mangawhai, and their logo is a Fairy Tern bird. 
The Fairy Tern is a bird unique to Mangawhai.  It is an endangered sea swallow with only seven breeding pairs remaining.
Bennetts is a supporter of the Fairy Tern Trust.

What we love about these bars are their cute size and a colour pallette that we would use in our house.
You are able to buy from their online shop, but we picked ours up at Capers Cafe in Rotorua for $5 a 60g bar, which is the same as their online store.

The five we tried:

Bennetts Amber - Caramel and Vanilla
30% Cocoa butter
Sugars per 60g serving size is 32g.

It has a condensed milk aroma.  It takes a while for the flavor to show itself, but when it does it is a caramelly condensed milk, russian fudge flavor.
This was quite a mild flavor, a little bland.

Bennetts Milk Single Origin 45% Chocolate
Cacao grown in Mekong Delta Vietnam
Sugars per 60g serving size is 6.5g

There is a slight tangy chocolate fragrance to this chocolate.
It is creamy and smooth to eat, and is not too sweet.  It has a nice chocolate flavor, though quite mild.
This was a pleasant chocolate,  We did think it would have a stronger chocolate taste because of the percentage and the fragrance of it.  We did like how it wasn't overly sweet, though it is sweetness you get in the aftertaste.

Bennetts Blueberry in Milk Chocolate.
Flavored with real blueberries and blueberry oil.
Cocoa Solids 34%
Sugars per 60g serving size is 29.1g
Batch 36/10

The fragrance is a chocolate with a slight fruitiness.
The taste is of milk chocolate and a blueberry constant subtle flavor and then hits of more intense blueberry.
The aftertaste is the same milk chocolate an blueberry taste.

This bar was nice.  They got the balance of blueberry flavor right.  Anymore intense and the chocolate would have started tasting like bubble gum.

Bennetts Feijoa in Milk Chocolate

Johanan doesn't like Feijoa, but it one of Joni's favourite fruits.  
There is a feijoa fragrance.
The taste is milk chocolate with bits of dried feijoa bits.  If you like feijoas you will like this.  We do think this would have been even nicer is a more darker chocolate.

Bennetts Passionfruit in Milk Chocolate

Sugars per serving size of 60g is 29.2g
Batch 09/02
Flavored with Passionfruit and Passionfruit oil.
There is a strong passionfruit fragrance to this chocolate.
The tasting starts with a strong passionfruit taste and then the chocolate takes over with a slight passionfruit flavor.
The aftertaste is a passionfruit tang and faint chocolate.
This was nice when we first tried it.  When it had aired overnight and we tried it again the next day, the passionfruit flavor seemed to have gotten stronger and it wasn't as nice as we had remembered it.  We did think this would be nicer in a darker chocolate too.

Final thoughts:
These were all pleasant.  The blueberry ended up being our favourite of the five.
